'ello, Sunshine!
We're Pauline & Mark, we live in South West London and we started SunshineSocket because we believe in renewable energy and that it shouldn't cost the earth. We saw how expensive and complicated it can be shopping for solar panels and navigating the sea of products and regulations, that's why we make it our mission to simplify solar and provide the best value for our customers.
How do we simplify solar?
- On 27 August 2026, the UK government updated regulations and made it legal to plug solar panels directly into your home sockets using a 3-pin plug, up to 800W. But, not all the kits you can buy online are legal (at least, not yet). We take the stress out of figuring out which plug-in solar panels are compliant with UK regulations by selling only products which have secured compliance with the Energy Networks Association.
- All new plug-in solar kits must be registered with your local energy distribution network operator (DNO). This is a crucial step that other, larger retailers simply leave at your door. We offer to take this essential admin off your hands, with our DNO Notification Service as an option at checkout.
Our genuine hope is that improving access to renewables will help to leave this planet a better place for our baby boy, his generation, and beyond. If we can all save a little money in the process, even better.
Thank you for visiting our shop today and taking the time to read about what we're trying to do with SunshineSocket. We hope to see you over at the checkout!
